Installation Process of Ubuntu GNOME

Before installing Ubuntu GNOME we have to download its ISO image file and then burn it on DVD/CD and then run it (we can also create bootable USB flash drive and then install it).

Step 1:   At first phase of installation you'll see various option written on it but before going ahead Its recommended to "Check disc for defects" to be on safer side. If there is any defect in ISO image file then there will be some minor problems like system minor. It happens because there is possibility that there are some error in ISO image file and it is not downloaded correctly so to avoid this you must try downloading it again. And if everything is fine then press enter on "Install Ubuntu GNOME".

Step 2:  After step 1 you'll see one Install window appearing where at left you'll see various language option. Choose your language and then click on Continue button.

Step 3:  After clicking on Continue button you'll see one page written Preparing to install Ubuntu GNOME where it shows requirement of the computer that is needed for better performance. Green colour ensure that the requirement has been fulfilled and you can proceed.
Now select Download updates while installing if you want to install update and then click on install third-party software. After doing all this click on Continue button.

Step 4:  In this step you will see Partition management window where you can either Erase disk or create or resize. There are many options which you can choose but here I'll create partition for Ubuntu GNOME.

For creating partition click on radio button where its written "Something else". After clicking on it click on Continue button.

Step 5: After this you'll see one Installation type window where you can see your free space available. Here you can change the size of disk as per your need. For creating the partition, click on the free space column and after that click on + button.

After clicking on + button you can create partition by changing size according to your need. There is no need to change the type of partition and keep it normal. Now at mount point choose the path root /. If there is only one partition then we must choose root / because it stores cores system files and fixed them on that directory. When everything is done then click on OK button.

After that when another free space column will appear then click on that column and then click on + button. After that click on "Use as" column and then choose 'swap area' because it serves as backup memory. And then click on size and then type the amount of size you want to use as swap area. After selecting the size click on OK button.

And then click on install now. After that one dialogue box may come then you have to just click Continue button.

Step 6: In this step you have to set your time zone and location and choose in which country you belong to and after selecting it click on Continue button.

Step 7: After that keyboard layout window will appear. Select the desired layout you want to choose and then click Continue.

Step 8: In this step you have to type your name, computer name and you have to set password. After filling every detail click on Continue button.

After clicking continue button it will start installing and after installation  it will ask for restart. Click on restart and then you are ready to go and start using Ubuntu GNOME operating system.

Currently I use Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 with GNOME Shell 3.10.4 .

But Why I use Ubuntu GNOME :

 1. At first I would like to say that its Open source operating system.

 2. Desktop Experience: As per my experience Ubuntu GNOME is really user interactive and the way we can handle multiple workspace is that what I love it.

3. Searching any application made easy. Even if we want to find any file then without any short cut if we start typing the file name then we can easily find it if it is available on that directory.

4. Managing multiple windows made easy: If there are so many windows and if you want to see how many windows are opened then it can easily be seen in Activities.

4. Quick run command is really great thing which I have only seen in ubuntu only.

5. Terminal is really great. It looks great with full size it works great with so many tools we can use and its also fast.

6. Notification appearance: The way notification come while working is less interrupting and its like a gentle way of telling user if there is any alert. As shown in this picture downwards.

And this is why I use Ubuntu GNOME (The above screenshots were taken in final running system).
